I suppose the best way to start this blog would be to introduce myself. My name is Jewel. I am 23 years old, female and I currently live in Adelaide, Australia. I live at home with my parents and my younger sister. We have two border collies, Jess and Jemma who are part of the family. Jess is black and white, a superb soccer player and a princess. Jemma is brown and white and a complete clown, whose silliness hides her superior intelligence and her skills in thievery, chewing remote controls and treeing possums at 3am.
I have lived in Adelaide all of my life but I am planning to travel overseas in the future. I have been to many places in Australia, including to Sydney, Melbourne, the Gold Coast and to Yalata at the head of the Great Australian Bight to see the Southern Right Whales. I would like to travel to the US to see friends there and I would also like to visit Great Britain, France, Italy and New Zealand.
I am a high school teacher. My job is tough but ultimately it is rewarding work. 2008 is my second year out and I am much more relaxed this year… it also helps that I know the names of pretty much all of my students. Last year was the steepest of learning curves for me and I am fortunate that we have such a supportive staff at our school. This year I am teaching all senior classes which I love… I am doing English, ESL and Work Ed.
I have a few hobbies that I sometimes struggle to find time for. I love to write stories and I read voraciously. I also make my own jewellery, design websites and logos and take photos with my brilliant Fujifilm Finepix S5600 camera.
My favourite animal is the horse. I worked at a riding school when I was in Year 11 but the owner closed and moved interstate the following year. I am planning to start taking lessons again later this year, once I have settled into school and saved some money. My favourite horse breed is the Appaloosa (I love the mix of colours). I first discovered appys when I began visiting Saddlebrook Appaloosas in 2001. I have now seen six foals (Tux, Romeo, Phoebe, Sport, Chief and Moxy) born live on their webcams.
I also love to cook (especially in winter) and I will be posting some recipes when I get the chance. I am planning to make biscuits and muffins to share after school on Friday, if I get a chance on Thursday night.
