Well, after 30 days I have come to the grand total of 34,061 as my final total. It is not the 50000 words I was hoping for but it is more than I think I have ever written in a month and I am happy with most of what I have written. I plan to keep working on it through the holidays in December and January, although I will also get back to working on SR, my regular novel.

Brief synopsis of how it turned out:
Lady Kellyn of Rycroft is the only survivor after her entire family is killed by Talan, who has kept Kellyn as a potentially valuable hostage. twelve year old Kellyn is rescued by three benevolent centaurs (Ferran, his son Darius and daughter Darielle) from Talan’s men and escorted to High Ford, where she is raised by her uncle, King Abelard, her aunt, Queen Mirena and her cousin, Prince Aidan.
Five years later, seventeen year old Kellyn discovers that her uncle planned the attack at Rycroft and that Talan carried it out on his orders – although he was meant to have killed Kellyn as well. Furthermore, she discovers that her uncle plans to marry her to her cousin Aidan, (in a forced marriage, if necessary). Kellyn flees High Ford, with the help of Darielle and Darius, the centaur twins who saved her from Talan five years before. Travelling with them, she discovers that it is likely that she is half-elven; her mother Niara was an elven princess.
Taken to the mystical Gwynvale, her magic fully manifests, making her a force to be reckoned with, though she needs to be trained to fully harness her power. In the Gwynvale, she renews her acquaintance with Ferran, who advises her to travel to the elves to be recognised as one of their kin. There, she forms a fast friendship with Darielle and discovers that Darius has feelings for her, though he recognises their love is doomed because of their different race; instead he resolves to love her as a sister and protect her with his life.
She journeys to Rycroft, discovering that her family and their tenants have been placed into an enchanted sleep. She then makes for the elven city of Alesia – the City of Light – where she meets her grandmother, Nurian, her cousin Tirion and learns that Talan, like herself is not only half-elven but is also her first cousin, once removed through her mother’s kin.
Aware that Talan and Aidan are pursuing her, with their own purposes in mind, Kellyn must find a way to keep her freedom and stop herself from becoming a pawn – or a weapon - in the game that Abelard, Aidan and Talan are playing.

Congrats on the 34K word count! I hope to reach 25,000 by midnight tonight. While we may not have earned the illustrious “winners widget,” I, myself, think that we all have won at least something. For me, the contest got me started on my third novel after a three month no-writing hiatus.
I read your synopsis and think you have a fine story going here and look forward to reading it when it’s done!
Thanks for writing =8>)

Congratulations on making 34,000 words! That is still a commendable feat for one month’s work, and it’s always satisfying when one gets writing one likes out of such a hectic pace. I love your synopsis, it has such a fairy tale quality to it. If you’re interested, I’d love to trade NaNoWriMo novels, or just reading yours if you don’t have the time.
